Size Guide

RING SIZE GUIDE: HOW TO MEASURE YOUR RING SIZE

One of the first steps to finding the perfect ring is making sure that the size fits perfectly. Although we can resize most rings, it is always best to have the perfect size from the start. It makes all the difference especially for engagement and wedding rings that require to be worn at all times. Having the prefect size ring helps maintain the beauty of the ring as an ill-fitting ring that is too big will either be knocked and gemstones will fall off, while a small ring will choke your finger and may require to be cut out.

Our ring size guide is designed to help you find the perfect fit – whether you are planning on surprising your significant other with a romantic proposal, you are looking for a beautiful wedding band or simply wanting to spoil yourself with a diamond creation. Our guide offers guidance on how to get your ring size, as well as some useful tips on what to consider when measuring your ring finger size.

HOW ARE RING SIZES MEASURED IN SOUTH AFRICA?

Various ring size systems are used all over the world. South Africa and the United Kingdom use the same system, while ring sizes in the US and Canada are measured on a different scale.

SOUTH AFRICA / UK RING SIZE SYSTEM

This system is also used by Australia, Ireland and New Zealand. Ring sizes are indicated by letters of the alphabet with half sizes in between. Each half size up represents an increase of 0.75 mm of the ring’s inside circumference.

US RING SIZE SYSTEM

The US ring size system is based on the non-metric British inch. This system is used in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

ENGAGEMENT RING SIZE GUIDE

After you have measured the inner circumference or diameter of your ring, refer to the ring size chart below to find your ideal ring size. The chart can also be used for ring size conversion and to see how sizes compare internationally. Remember, measuring your ring finger size is not an exact science as our fingers change in size from morning to evening and even from season to season.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR RING SIZE AT HOME

If you want to know your ring size before visiting a jeweler there is an easy way of finding the perfect fit. Simply follow the steps below to measure your ideal ring’s inner circumference, then find the corresponding size from our engagement ring size guide.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR RING SIZE USING STRING

  1. Cut a piece of paper or non-stretchable string or wire
  2. Wrap it snugly at the base of the knuckle without chocking the finger
  3. Mark using a pen the beginning and end where the ends overlap
  4. Lay it flat and use a rule to measure in millimeters the length between the two points
  5. Use the Size chart below to identify your ring

For your convenience our ring size chart includes South African / Australian / UK ring sizes with the respective converted Canadian / US ring sizes. This chart is applicable to both women’s and men’s ring sizes.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR RING SIZE USING ANOTHER RING

The string method works like a charm but is not ideal if you want to keep the element of surprise for the proposal. Our second ring size measuring method requires a bit of crafty secrecy, but sweeping her off her feet with a perfectly sized engagement ring will be well worth it.

If your soon-to-be-fiancé already has a ring that fits well on her ring finger you can determine her ring size by tracing the inner circumference of the ring with a very sharp pencil on a piece of paper. Measure the circle’s diameter in millimeters and find the corresponding size on the ring size chart.
